This painting was part of the 'In Ghostly Japan' series. This body of work explored Japanese ghost stories. The 2011 Tsunami in Japan spurred a resurgence of ghost sightings and a renewed interest in the rich history of Yokai, and was the inspiration for this series. This image is of a Bakemono, an apparition. Sometimes referred to as Yurei, a spirit trapped in the human plain by unresolved issues.
